Cat years made simple

Cat Years to Human Years Chart

Use this chart to compare your cat's actual age with an approximate human-age equivalent and life stage.

Kitten age chart

The first year moves fast. These kitten-month estimates are approximate, but they help show why young kittens change so much in only a few weeks.

Why the chart is only an estimate

Human-age charts are useful because they give cat owners a quick sense of life stage. They are not a medical test. A healthy, active 13 year old cat may seem younger than the chart suggests, while a younger cat with health issues may need extra support sooner.

Common questions

What is the easiest cat years formula?

A common estimate is 15 human years for the first cat year, 24 human years by the second cat year, then about four human years for each cat year after that.

Why are kitten months included?

Kittens change so quickly that month-by-month ages are more useful during the first year.

Can two cats of the same age seem very different?

Yes. Health, lifestyle, genetics, activity, weight, and veterinary care can all affect how old a cat seems.
